Meet our faculty advisers

Susan Mango Curtis - Assistant Professor, Medill School of Journalism

Susan Mango Curtis

Mango teaches visual journalism classes in print and web design and photojournalism. Prior to Medill, she worked as an AME for the Akron Beacon Journal where she redesigned the paper and was part of a team that won a Pulitzer Prize gold medal for “The Question of Color”. Mango also worked for the Journal newspapers in suburban Washington, D.C., the Washington Post Sunday magazine and was art director for the NRA. She is a previous SND president and is an active member of the NABJ visual task force.

Jeremy Gilbert - Assistant Professor, Medill School of Journalism

Jeremy teaches interactive storytelling, web and print design tools and techniques. Before coming to Medill in the fall of 2008, he led The Poynter Institute in rethinking and redesigning its industry leading website, Poynter Online. Jeremy also worked as the Design Director and Art Director for the St. Petersburg Times and The News-Press in Fort Myers, Fla., redesigning both newspapers. Previously he worked as a user interaction designer and graphic designer for multiple web start-ups.

Jack Doppelt - Professor, Medill School of Journalism

In addition to serving as OurFirstLoves.com’s legal adviser, Jack publishes ImmigrationHereAndThere.org and OnTheDocket.org and is a faculty associate at Northwestern’s Institute for Policy Research. He has represented journalists before the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals in an attempt to gain access to sealed court documents, and has consulted as an expert witness on media practices in a number of legal cases.
